LOWER DIR: Jamaat-i-Islami chief Sirajul Haq has condemned the ‘controversial’ legislation on domestic violence and said that it has violated the Constitution.

He was addressing the Jamaat’s Lower Dir monthly congregation at Ahyaul Uloom Balambat on Thursday evening.

Mr Haq said only his party and some other religious figures in the Senate opposed the bill. “PPP, PML-N and PTI are in agreement on passage of this un-Islamic bill, which will destroy the Islamic family system in the country,” he remarked.

He also condemned the passage of a bill in the Sindh Assembly against forced conversion as open mockery of Islamic values.

He said majority of the companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had embraced Islam before 18 years of age. He said the JI would resist the ‘un-Islamic’ measures at every forum.

He said the prices of petroleum products were being raised twice a month and the rates of medicines had increased by 300 per cent during the tenure of the incumbent government.

The JI chief also deplored power outages across the country and said the government had no plans to arrest the situation.

He announced the JI would start a protest campaign against the government with a demonstration in Islamabad on July 2 against inflation, unemployment and corruption.
