Tennis camp for wheelchair, special Olympic athletes

KARACHI: The inaugural Saturday Welfare Group Tennis Coaching Camp for wheelchair and special players commenced at Union Club, Karachi.

The Sindh Tennis Association and the Karachi Tennis Association are organising this four-month coaching camp which is being supported by the Saturday Welfare Group. Special Olympic Pakistan is the collaborator.

Thirteen Wheelchair players have been selected by Para Sports Pakistan while 11 intellectually challenged special Athletes have been nominated by SOP for the camp. A total of 24 players attended inaugural session of two hours.

Aqeel Khan, Pakistan’s top tennis player, was the chief guest at the opening ceremony.Muhammad Khalid Rehmani thanked SWT for this noble cause of inclusion of these less privileged athletes into main stream sports fraternity of country.

He also thanked Special Olympic Pakistan, Para Sports Pakistan and President Union Club Shamim Firpo for their support. The camp will be held on Saturdays, Sun­days and Wednesdays during morning hours. All participants are getting conveyance allowance and lunch boxes.

Aqeel Shabbir is the head coach, Ishrat Zehra as coach and Sarwar Hussain as camp coordinator.
