KARACHI, Oct 27: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has sent relief aid worth of Rs1.1 billion and the relief operation is still being carried out. The MQM Chief, Altaf Hussain, stressed the need for continuing relief activities in an organized and coordinated manner, and asked the responsible and members of all wings to take active part in relief activities.

Addressing the MQM’s Coordination Committee meeting at his party office in London, Mr Hussain expressed satisfaction over relief activities carried out by the MQM workers.

According to a press release issued from the MQM-London through fax, the meeting was attended by Convenor Dr Imran Farooq, Senior Deputy Convenor Tariq Jawed, and members Saleem Shahzad, Mohammad Ashfaq Ahmed, Jawed Kazmi, Mumtaz Anwar, Syed Ahmed Tariq Mir, Asif Siddiqui, and Mustafa Azizabadi.

The meeting was told that the MQM had dispatched relief aid up to Rs1.1 billion for distribution among the quake victims.

Field hospitals in Muzaffarabad and Abottabad had been established where hundreds of victims were being given treatment. Besides, medical camps were also set up in Bagh, Battagram, Poonch, Mansehra, and other areas.

Two mobile dispensaries were providing treatment to far-flung areas in Azad Kashmir and the NWFP, he said.

The meeting was informed that people had been lodged in tents in Muzaffarabad, Abottabad, Garhi Habibullah, and Shimlai.

Mr Hussain expressed satisfaction over the pace of relief work and said activities for quake victims must continue with enthusiasm. He asked the meeting to extend all possible help to quake victims.

He appreciated the services of workers, members, doctors and paramedical staff in medical aid committee and volunteers of the Khidmat-i-Khalq Foundation.
