KARACHI: Corneal transplant at LGH

KARACHI, Oct 27: The Lyari General Hospital has started corneal transplant surgery, it is learnt. For the first time, eye keratoplasty was performed on the left eye of a patient who had lost her eyesight. The 42-year-old patient, Noor Jahan, wife of Kafeel Ahmed, is a resident of Model Colony, Malir.

According to Prof Shahid, In-charge of the hospital’s Eye Unit, the operation on the right eye of the patient would be performed after Eid. He said the surgery was perfect and there was no complication after the operation, which was carried out on a vitrectomy machine through private arrangement. The medical superintendent, Mukhtiar Khwaja, urged philanthropists to help the LGH to get vitrectomy and laser facilities.
