KOHAT: The police arrested a man and seized weapons during checking of a vehicle on the Indus Highway here on Sunday.

The arms were being smuggled through a mountain route from the Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision to Waziristan via Bannu.

In a statement, district police officer Sohail Khalid said the weapons were transported through the mountain to the road. He added accused Munir Khan, a resident of Bannu, had been shifted to the Muhammad Riaz Shaheed police station.

The weapons included six Kalashnikovs, a kalakov, a 12-bore repeater, 18 pistols, and 500 cartridges.

During interrogation, the smuggler admitted that he was trying to smuggle the weapons to Bannu and then to a party in Waziristan districts. The DPO said a case had been registered against the accused.

In a separate development, the police arrested a proclaimed offender along with facilitators and 24 suspects in Jarma area on Sunday. The action was taken in the surroundings of the prison and Kohat University of Science and Technology on the Bannu Road, according to a statement.

DSP Saddar circle Bashir Dad and Jarma police SHO Rasool Khan led the raids on the hideouts of the PO, his facilitators and other criminals.

The police also seized two shotguns, three pistols, three chargers and hundreds of chargers. The Jarma police registered separate cases against them.
