DADU: Three armed men stormed a police check post, shot and wounded the lone constable sitting inside and took away his official gun near Mehar town on Friday.

Dadu SSP Aijaz Ahmed Shaikh told local reporters that constable Ghulam Abbas Mazari posed resistance to the attackers and engaged them in an encounter during which he sustained bullet wounds in his arm.

The police officer said that the attack took place when the other constable on duty at the check post, in Gaji Khuhawar village, had gone to arrange drinking water for them.

He said the three attackers riding a motorcycle carried out the attack and sped away before return of the other constable.

Constable Shaikh was provided emergency medical assistance at Mehar’s government hospital and then shifted to the Chandka Medical College Hospital in Larkana for further treatment. His condition was stated to be out of danger.

The SSP said that a police team led by the Mehar DSP was dispatched to locate and arrest the attackers. Six suspects were picked up for interrogation, he added.
