KARACHI, Oct 25: Karachi Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that the old sewerage lines in all localities of the city including Orangi will be replaced along with the construction of roads.

He took the decision during a late night visit to various parts of Orangi Town, where he noticed the problems caused by leakages in sewerage lines and the bottlenecks in the way of construction of roads.

The nazim decided that no road would be constructed without drainage because in the absence of quality drains and sagging lines the roads did not last longer and every now and then these were reconstructed due to stagnant sewerage and rainwater.

He directed the concerned officials to submit him a comprehensive report within a week in this regard.

Till wee hours of the morning, Mustafa Kamal inspected the under-construction roads in Orangi and said all projects should be completed in coordination with the town administration.

He said, “No project will be conceived one way and consultation of the respective town nazims will be essential and also the opinion of people residing there.”

The nazim inspected Shahrah-i-Qadafi from Qasba More to German School, Gulshan-i-Bahar, Manghopir Road from Pirabad to Sarhad Petrol Pump, Banaras Chowk to Toori Bangash Chowk and Shahrah-i-Orangi.

During visit to Shahrah-i-Orangi, Mr Kamal was informed that this 6.5km road was being constructed at a cost of Rs170 million. He was informed that 50 per cent work had been completed and the remaining work was delayed due to the shifting of 129 electricity poles.

The nazim directed the District Coordination Officer to contact the KESC to get the work done expeditiously.

He was informed that 6km-long Manghopir Road would be completed in two phases. It would have two tracks of 36 feet width instead of 24 feet and drains would be included where they were absent. —APP
