GILGIT: The Karakoram International University (KIU) on Tuesday launched its magazine.

The launching ceremony of the magazine ‘The Karakoram’ was held at the main campus here.

Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Speaker Syed Amjad Ali Zaidi, Vice-Chancellor Dr Attaullah Shah, minister for works Wazir Saleem, finance minister Javaid Ali Manwa and members of civil society were in attendance.

Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Amjad Zaidi lauded the efforts of the faculty and management of KIU in facilitating the students. He said training was needed for KIU students to promote the region through print, electronic and social media.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Attaullah Shah said KIU was providing a platform to students to do research in different fields.

He said the objective of launching the magazine was to project the soft image of the region to the world by highlighting its unique and beautiful culture, diversity, geostrategic and economic significance and achievements of its people.

Dr Shah said KIU would continue its efforts to provide modern knowledge to students.

“The magazine will be fruitful in generating research work on different issues of GB,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, finance minister Javaid Manwa said the students of the mass communication department should get training on data journalism.
