KARACHI: There is a complete silence at the Karachi Racecourse (KRC) and it presents a deserted look, morning track work of horses is an exception, in the wake of lockdown clamped down by the Sindh government in the province to control Covid-19 cases.

By now five racing weeks have been wasted costing an approximate loss of Rs1.5 million to the KRC. Due to the prevailing lockdown, Eid Milan Cup could also not take place.

It may be mentioned that the last Gymkhana race meeting was held on May 2.

While the masses are being vaccinated to avoid the disease, the KRC is also not left behind and got the horses vaccinated of annual equine flu and other diseases.

As the races have commenced in Lahore after a 10-week layoff due to surge in Covid-19 cases, some people connected with the equine sport including turf accountants, travelled to the city to earn their livelihoods.

The KRC officials have kept their fingers crossed and hope that the races will resume soon.
