KARACHI, Oct 24: Founder of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Altaf Hussain on Monday called for precautionary measures in the coastal areas of Karachi as the city was located in the earthquake-prone belt.

In a statement, he called for procuring helicopters and earthmovers and for setting up o disaster management cells in all four provinces. He also stressed on improving communication network to meet such emergencies.

Mr Hussain referred to the October 8 earthquake and said the movement of tectonic plates could have adverse impact on Karachi. As such, he added, it was imperative for people and the government to take precautionary measures to avoid any catastrophe.
