ISLAMABAD: Two Covid-19 patients died in Islamabad and three in the Rawalpindi district while 101 people were found infected in the twin cities.

The federal capital reported 62 and the garrison city 39 new cases on Tuesday.Officials of the capital administration said the death toll from the virus in the capital had reached 762. The two deaths were reported in the age group of 40-49 and 50-59. Both the deceased were males and residents of F-7 and I-11.

Since the outbreak of the disease, 231 deaths have been reported in the age group of 60-69, 188 in 70-79, 133 in 50-59, 101 in 80-89, 57 in 40-49, 25 in 30-39, 21 in 90-99, four in 20-29 and one each in 0-9 and 10-19.

In the last 24 hours, 3,220 tests were conducted and the positivity rate remained 1.92pc.

Besides, 678 patients recovered on Tuesday and at present there are 4,853 active cases 143 kept in hospitals. Out of the patients in hospitals, 131 are on oxygen and 12 on ventilators.

The remaining patients are isolated at their houses.

So far, 20,201 people - 47,452 males and 33,743 females - have contracted the virus. Of these, 17,255 cases were reported in the age group of 30-39, 14,936 in 20-29, 12,471 in 40-49, 10,114 in 50-59, 8,657 in 0-9, 6,816 in 10-19, 6,603 in 60-69, 2,838 in 70-79 and 1,039 in 80 and above.

Rawalpindi

Three persons died and 39 more people tested positive in the district while 46 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours.

Rashida Khatoon, 82, a resident of Satellite Town, was brought to the Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU) on May 29 where she died.

Mohammad Hussain, 82, of Chaklala Scheme-III, was admitted to Begum Akhter Rukhsana Memorial Trust Hospital on May 31 where he also died.Mohammad Zafar, 65, a resident of Wah Cantonment, died at Holy Family Hospital where he was brought on May 31.

In the district, there are 566 active patients - 96 in hospitals and 470 home isolated. As many as 719 patients are waiting their results of Covid-19 serology.

Of the new cases, 11 were reported from the cantonment, nine from Potohar Town and four from Rawal Town.

From other parts of the district, six patients arrived from Taxila, two each from Gujar Khan, Kotli Sattian, one each from Murree, Mianwali, Chakwal and Abbottabad.

Officials said 22 of the new patients were admitted in Holy Family Hospital, 14 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), 34 in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU), 22 in Fauji Foundation Hospital (FFH), three in Bilal Hospital and one patient in Hearts International Hospital.

There are five patients on ventilators, 53 are on oxygen and 38 are stable.

Oxygen tank installed

An oxygen tank of 10,000 gallons has been installed at the Cantonment General Hospital (CGH). The hospital does not deal with Covid-19 patients and refers them to government hospitals.

However, RCB spokesman Qaiser Mehmood said the oxygen tank had been installed to cater to the requirement of coronavirus and other oxygen-dependent patients.

Hospital administrator removed

Brig Imranul Haq has been removed from the post of the CGH administrator.

Dr Attiquddin, deputy administrator (clinical), has been assigned the responsibilities of acting administrator of the hospital till the new appointment.

According to sources, the process of appointment of the new administrator shall start soon.
