LAHORE: Pakistan Railways (PR) Chairman Dr Habubur Rehman Gilani on Friday expressed wonder for not giving possession of various chunks of land to the railways for the construction of railway station, yards, etc, in Gwadar district headquarters.

He also directed the senior officials concerned to immediately contact the Gwadar administration, get possession of the land and construct a boundary wall around it.

“It was surprising for me when I came to know that the land we purchased/acquired for the constructing railway station and yards etc at Gwadar has yet to be taken over by our department concerned. Therefore, I took action immediately in a meeting on Friday at the PR headquarters by ordering an inquiry with a direction to get possession of the land as soon as possible,” Gilani told Dawn.

He said Gwadar would be linked to the rail network at two routes.

He said the total cost of the project would emerge after the completion of the feasibility report of the project.

Meanwhile, the participants in the meeting reviewed various projects and decided to issue show-cause notices to the officials for being negligent in getting possession of the land in Gwadar.

Apart from this, the issue of flats being constructed for railway employees in Lahore, Karachi and Narowal also came under discussion.
