FAISALABAD: A man allegedly axed two others to death inside a mosque over a sectarian issue in the wee hours of Thursday at Chak 376-GB, in the precincts of Roadala Road police.

The police, quoting locals, said the suspect, Allah Yaar, a native, attacked the deceased men, one of them an elderly man, with an axe, inside the mosque at the time of Fajr prayers, leaving both of them dead on the spot.

They said Allah Yaar belonged to a sect different from that of the victims.

In a video clip shared on social media, some eyewitnesses said that after killing the two men, the suspect claimed his act “would earn me heaven”.

Police did not disclose the particulars of the victims.
