KOHAT: The cantonment police claimed to have killed a proclaimed offender during an exchange of fire along the Hangu Road here on Monday.

The police had got a tip-off that proclaimed offender Bahadar Zaman was hiding in Naway Kallay area.

Afterwards, a police party was constituted which surrounded the area.

The proclaimed offender, who was hiding in an orchard, opened fire on the personnel after seeing them.

The police retaliated, killing the outlaw on the spot.

The outlaw was wanted to police in murder, robbery and extortion cases.

His body was shifted to the KDA Teaching Hospital for postmortem, and later handed over to relatives.

Separately, the Junglekhel police arrested seven arms smugglers at the Gulshanabad checkpost while coming from Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision.

The police recovered three 12-bore repeaters, four pistols, 11 chargers, and dozens of cartridges from their possession. Separate cases were registered against them.
