SUKKUR: A jirga (tribal court) was held in Tangwani town of Kandhkhot-Kashmore district on Monday to settle a dispute between the Jafferi and Bakhrani communities over a criminal assault on an eight-year-old boy belonging to the Bakhrani community.

Abdul Majeed Bakhrani, who chaired the jirga, was told that the suspect belonged to the Jafferi community. The well-attended jirga imposed a fine of Rs2m on the suspect.

Both sides accepted the ruling after which the Jafferi community paid Rs100,000 to the boy’s father on the spot and promised to pay off the remaining fine amount in three installments within three months.
