SWABI: Firefighters managed to put out a blaze that broke out in the mountainous region between the Swabi and Buner districts after 15 hours of struggle on Friday, Rescue 1122 officials said.

They said cause of the fire was not known, but they started action soon after receiving information about the blaze.

Firefighters from Swabi, Mardan and Buner districts were called in to help in extinguishing the blaze.

Luqman Khan, a rescue service official, said strong winds hampered the efforts to speedily put out the fire, causing its spread to more areas.

He said with the support of local people the firefighters succeeded in putting out the blaze.

The officials said the fire had turned into ashes a huge mountainous area between both the Buner and Swabi districts, destroying precious trees and habitat of birds and wild animals.
