Birds are beautiful creatures of nature, all unique from each other, with some having melodious sounds and some with beautiful coloured feathers. While seeing them flying high in the sky refreshes the soul, their presence on a tree gives immense pleasure.

So, today we are bringing some birds in our house, they will stay with us as long as we want. These are birds made from yarn — an easy and interesting craft made in just half an hour.

Things you need:

  1. Yarn (in three colours of your choice; I chose purple, white and pink)

  2. Twigs (from a tree, or you can use barbeque skewers)

  3. Scissors

  4. A piece of hardboard; 8-inches long and 5-inches wide.

Directions:

    1. Tie all three yarn strings one by one, length-wise on the hardboard piece, (30 rounds each colour), see picture 2.
    1. Cut from one side carefully, picture 3.
    1. Place one yarn flat and the other on top of it, but in a cross; I put purple straight and then white on top of it in a cross, see picture 4.
  1. Bring purple yarn over the white in the centre, and tie a tight knot with a piece of yarn, see pictures 5 and 6.

  2. Notice the white yarn is still lying straight, bring both sides of white yarn strings towards each other, and tie a knot, picture 7.

  3. Put the pink yarn flat on top of white and purple yarn knotted area, then make a 1-inch-long tissue paper roll and put it in the centre on pink yarn, picture 8.

  4. Bring the purple yarn over the tissue roll, while hiding it inside, this is going to be the body of the bird, picture 9.

  5. Bring the pink yarn crossways and tie a knot, pictures 10 and 11.

  6. Our bird is almost ready, just cut a tiny triangle (the size of a beak) from black paper and paste it on its face. To make the eyes, you can use googly eyes or insert beaded pins, picture 12.

  7. Cut access yarn from the tail, picture 13.

  8. Put the bird on the twigs or any sticks you have, decorate the way you like with flowers and leaves, picture 14.
