WHEAT PROCUREMENT: Bannu commissioner Shaukat Ali Yousafzai has asked the food department and other officials concerned to use all resources to achieve the wheat procurement target set for the current crop season.
He issued these directives while chairing a meeting at his office on Tuesday. Lakki Marwat deputy commissioner Abdul Haseeb, Bannu deputy commissioner Mohammad Zubair and officials of food and agriculture departments were in attendance.
The food department officials told the meeting that they had set up centres in Bannu division to buy wheat from farmers at the support price announced by the government.
“In rain-fed areas, the farmers have got low yield this year,” they said, adding that the growers received higher per acre yield than the previous year in irrigated areas of Bannu division.
The commissioner said that achieving the wheat procurement target was essential to fulfil domestic needs and keep reserves for the coming years.
