KARACHI: A 40-year-old shopkeeper was shot dead in Korangi area late on Sunday night, according to police and rescue services.

Zaman Town police said that armed robbers tried to snatch cash and other valuables from Imran Wali Mohammed, the owner of a medical store, in Korangi No 4. As he put up resistance, the suspects opened fire on him and fled. He suffered critical bullet injuries and was transported to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he succumbed to his wounds during treatment.

Rangers arrest ‘street criminal’

Pakistan Rangers and police jointly conducted an intelligence-based action in Manzoor Colony and detained a suspected street criminal.

A spokesperson for the paramilitary force described the held suspect, Asif Zaman, as a member of an “extremely wanted dacoit gang.”

The officer said that two robbery incidents had taken place at a bakery and dairy shops near Anklesaria Hospital off M.A. Jinnah Road on April 3 and 7 respectively in which four suspects were seen snatching mobile phones and cash from employees and customers at gunpoint. CCTV footage of the crimes went viral on social media. The suspect was arrested on basis of the footage.

During initial probe, he “confessed” to committing over 100 robberies. His other accomplice, Zeeshan, was already arrested by the Rangers. He was subsequently handed over to the police along with seized weapon for further legal action.
