The Punjab government has decided to impose a "complete lockdown" in the province from May 8 with Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid warning that the next 15 to 20 days were "very important" in order to bring the coronavirus situation under control.
During the lockdown, public transport will remain suspended while all tourist spots will also remain closed. Checkpoints will be established at entry and exit points of cities, the provincial government said in a statement, adding that police, Rangers and Pakistan Army officials would be posted.
Rashid urged people to celebrate Eid with simplicity and to follow precautionary measures against the coronavirus.
