Gilgit Baltistan's focal person for coronavirus Dr Shah Zaman has said that only eight Covid-19 patients in the region are admitted in hospitals of which two are in critical condition. Around 100 corona-affected people are isolating at home, he said.

Zaman said that coronavirus spread in GB again after the region was declared free from Covid-19 due to people arriving from Islamabad and Rawalpindi. GB still has the lowest positivity rate in Pakistan, he added.

The focal person said that 71 vaccination centres had been established in GB but the pace of the roll-out was slow.

Work has been started on establishing an oxygen plant at the City Hospital in Gilgit, Zaman said, adding that a plant had already been set up in Skardu with the capacity to produce 370 litres of oxygen per day.
