SUKKUR: Light to heavy rain struck different parts of the province, from Ghotki to Dadu and Mithi districts, on Sunday, damaging a number of thatched houses and huge piles of wheat worth millions of rupees lying in the open in food department’s godowns.

The heavy rain has done irreparable harm to huge wheat stocks worth millions of rupees lying in the open in food department’s godowns in Khanpur Mahar. No official concerned including food inspector Shahzado Samir has arrived in the town to save the wheat stocks, which may get destroyed if it rains again.

In Shafi Mohammad Pitafi village near Khanpur Mahar in Ghotki district, roof of a villagers’ house caved in during heavy rain late on Saturday night, killing five goats under the debris. The inmates remained safe because they were sleeping in the house’s open courtyard while valuable household items were damaged.

Citizens, members of civil society and political parties demanded Sindh government take notice of the damage so far caused by the heavy rain and take action against the negligent food inspector and other officials concerned to save the huge stocks of the grain.

DADU: It rained heavily in Mehar and Khairpur Nathan Shah towns and hailstones fell along with the downpour in Kakar, Khanpur, Makhdoom Bilawal and Moro towns on Sunday. The rain led to suspension of power supply.

MITHI: Light showers coupled with fearsome lightning lashed different villages of Mithi and Islamkot talukas after grueling heat for many days, turning weather pleasant. Most people preferred to remain indoors to save themselves from lighting.
