KARACHI: A strong field of 13 horses have entered the fray in the Labour Day Cup which figures prominently in a five-race card drawn for the Gymkhana race meeting being held at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

The Labour Day Cup has been classified under combined scale order of VI and VII and will be run over four furlongs. It is the fourth race in racing order.

Half-a-dozen horses are in contention for the feature event — scale order I, II and III — that will also be contested over four furlongs. It is the last race on day’s card.

Horses of lower classification who used to be among those who also ran will experience a new two-and-a-half furlong race for the first time. It has been designed to provide incentive to the owners.

The scale order VII and VIII race will start from the bend and will end at the winning post.

Altogether, 39 horses will vie for honours in the day’s races — third of Ramazan — barring last minute withdrawal(s). The first race starts at 3:00pm.
