BAJAUR: Two micro hydropower stations, built by the Pakistan Army, were opened here on Friday.
Additional deputy commissioner (planning and finance) Sohil Aziz and officials of the army and Frontier Corps inaugurated the units in Lara Mukha and Bara Mukha areas of Mamond tehsil at separate functions.
Speaking at one such function, Sohil Aziz said the small power plants would ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to hundreds of households in the areas. He said the two power plants were the first such projects in the power sector in the region.
Officials said the Pak Army and Frontier Corps also planned to construct small power plants in other areas of Mamond.
The tribal elders thanked the Pak Army, the Frontier Corps and Bajaur Scouts for constructing the micro hydropower stations in their areas.
PRECAUTIONS: The district administration has asked the ulema and payer leaders to play their role in preventing spread of Covid-19 in the region.
Deputy commissioner Mohammad Fayyaz Khan made the request while speaking a meeting attended by religious and prayer leaders the other day.
District police officer Shahzad Kaukab Farooq was also in attendance.
Mr Fayyaz said prayer leaders should use the platform of mosque to educate the people about observing the precautions against coronavirus.
He informed the participants that the total number of active cases in Bajaur stood at 700 with 30 deaths.
Mr Fayyaz said it was impossible for his administration to implement the guidelines without people’s cooperation.
He warned of action against those who were calling the measures against Covid-19 un-Islamic.
Religious leaders, including Mufti Hanifullah Jan, Maulana Zakirullah, Maulana Waheed Gulm, Maulana Abdul Wahab, Maulana Fazal Azeem, Maualna Mohammad Idress, Maulana Abdullah and others also spoke on the occasion and announced their support to the administration in enforcing Covid-19-induced SOPs.
