KHYBER: Unidentified gunmen looted a bank in broad daylight in the Bara Bazaar here on Wednesday.

The police said that armed men riding on two motorcycles entered the bank after overpowering its security guard and held the staff at gunpoint. They said the four robbers decamped with Rs4.8 million, adding it was the second robbery at the same bank in less than two months.

The police said they immediately reached the spot and laid siege to the entry and exit points of the bazaar. They said a search operation was also conducted in the vicinity but no arrests were made.

The police secured the CCTV footage of the bank and started further investigations.

Separately, power supply to the Landi Kotal Bazaar has been partially restored after nearly six years.

Local grid station staff has also started installing power meters at the shops. Officials said 100 shopkeepers had so far deposited money for installation of power meters.

They said power supply was restored to the tailoring shops in the first phase as the owners had already installed meters at their workplaces.

The officials said electricity would be provided to the entire bazaar upon installation of meters at all the shops.
