KARACHI, Jan 22: Three armed men wearing police uniform hijacked a car (Sunny Nissan) near Baitul Mukarram mosque in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Tuesday.

A senior police officer confirmed that the car, bearing registration number ACD-569, had been hijacked in Gulshan-i-Iqbal. However, it had not yet been ascertained whether the hijackers were policemen. “We are sure that they were wearing police uniform to deceive the occupant of the car,” he claimed.

He said police had been alerted and efforts were being made to arrest the car hijackers.

Besides this, bandits took away 23 vehicles — 10 cars and 13 motorcycles — in the city on Tuesday, the police said.

Six cars were hijacked. Four others were stolen. Most of them were taken away in districts East and South.

Six motorcycles were hijacked and seven others stolen, in districts East, Central and South.

ROAD ACCIDENT: A young man died in a road accident in Surjani Town.

Police said a young man, identified as Abdul Jabbar, aged 26, was run over by a passenger coach (PE-2289) in sector L-1 of Surjani Town. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

KILLED: A bandit was shot dead when one his fellows opened fire to set him free from the hold of two men in Ibrahim Hyderi. Three armed men barged into Mujeebur Rahman’s house in Christian Town.

The three armed men sought refuge in Mujeeb’s house, saying police were chasing them.

A scuffle broke out and Mujeeb disarmed the bandit. In the meantime, a policeman, who resided in the same street, reached at Mujeeb’s house. Sensing trouble, the two armed men opened fire at Mujeeb, but the bullet hit one of his fellow bandits.
