Pakistan has reported 135 coronavirus fatalities during the last 24 hours, the highest number of deaths reported since June 2020 and the highest so far this year.

A day earlier, the country had reported 118 deaths. According to the National Command and Operation Centre, 153 deaths were reported on June 20 last year. The next day 148 deaths were reported and since then the number of deaths had remained less than 118.

According to the health ministry, 48,092 tests were conducted during the last 24 hours after which 4,681 people tested positive. The total number of cases in the country is 734,423 and the death toll is 15,754.

Punjab recorded the most deaths during the last 24 hours at 79 followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 49.

Region-wise breakdown of cases and deaths recorded:

  • Punjab: 2,775 cases, 79 deaths
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 770 cases, 49 deaths
  • Islamabad: 508 cases, 2 deaths
  • Sindh: 366 cases
  • Azad Jammu and Kashmir: 150 cases, 3 deaths
  • Balochistan: 102 cases, 2 deaths
  • Gilgit-Baltistan: 10 cases
