MINNEAPOLIS: Authorities imposed a curfew in and around Minneapolis on Monday night after a police officer shot dead a young black man, dramatically escalating tensions in the US city.

The curfew will also be enforced in the twin city of St. Paul and surrounding communities, including Hennepin County, where 20-year-old Daunte Wright was killed on Sunday when a police officer mistakenly used her gun instead of a taser during a confrontation.

Minneapolis, the largest city in the US state of Minnesota, is already on edge because it is in the midst of the murder trial of George Floyd, an African American who died on May 25 last year after a white police officer placed his knee on his neck for more than nine minutes.
