BAHAWALPUR: The district administration officials are giving final touches to a Sahulat bazaar which is expected to be opened for the public on the eve of Ramazan.
The Sahulat Bazaar has been re-constructed at the place of a Model Bazaar which was destroyed by an accidental blaze in December 2018 causing heavy financial losses to the traders. After the horrible fire, Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar visited the market on his first visit to preside over the maiden meeting of his cabinet in Bahawalpur. He had assured the affected shopkeepers of monetary assistance by the government.
Afterwards, on the instructions of the provincial government, the district administration began construction of Sahulat Bazaar on the site. The bazaar has a provision of 164 stalls, a mosque, a parking area, public toilets and a canteen for the customers.
Deputy Commissioner Muzzafar Khan Sial inspected the project the other day. Assistant Commissioner Naeem Sadiq Cheema said during the briefing that Rs90 million had been spent on the project which was expected to be opened ahead of Ramazan. He said maximum facilities would be provided to the customers visiting the bazaar.
A playland for children accompanying their parents for shopping had also been developed on the premises of the bazaar.
SMUGGLING: Officials of the food department during a raid on highway near Uch Sharif have seized 1,800 bags of wheat allegedly being smuggled out of the district.
Police seized impounded four trucks and lodged an FIR against the persons carrying wheat without proper permission out of district.
