BAJAUR: Senior officials of the district administration and police on Friday vowed to use all efforts and resources for improving law and order situation in Bajaur tribal district.

The pledge was made by deputy commissioner Mohammad Fayyaz Khan and district police officer Kaukab Farooq while speaking to a delegation of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl local leadership to address their grievances about the poor law and order situation in the district.

Tribal elders and religious leaders also attended the meeting and give suggestions for improvement of law and order situation.

The JUI-F delegation, which was led by its district chief Maulana Abdur Rasheed, said that a noticeable increase had been witnessed in targeted killing and land dispute-related incidents in Bajaur since the merger of tribal districts with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2018.

They said such incidents were also spreading a sense of insecurity among the local population.

The JUI-F leaders asked the officials to take tangible steps for improving law and order situation besides initiating action against those involved in the incidents of targeted killings in the region.

The DC and DPO said that they were committed to improving the law and order situation and urged the delegation to help the administration and police in maintenance of peace in the region.

GANG BUSTED: Police here on Friday claimed to have busted a gang involved in circulating fake currency and arrested its ringleader with thousands of fake Pakistani currency.

DPO Kaukab Farooq told mediapersons that the police had received complaints from the local traders that a gang was circulating counterfeit currency in different bazaars in the district for the last several weeks.

He said a police team arrested a man identified as Umar Mohammad, a resident of Shinki Utmankhel and alleged ringleader of the gang, during a search operation near Lowisam area and recovered about Rs30,000 fake Pakistani currency from him.

The DPO said the accused was later shifted to Khar jail for further interrogation.
