SHEIKHUPURA, Oct 17: District Nazim Mian Jalil Ahmad Sharqpuri’s victory celebrations here on Monday stunned the local public who were not expecting lavish spending, especially by a spiritual leader, at a time when the nation mourns the quake tragedy.

Riding a horse-driven buggy, Sharqpuri came to the district complex hall to take oath of his office in a procession led by folk dancers. After the oath a fireworks show shook the town.

Traffic on the busy Sargodha Road remained suspended for an hour as his procession moved slowly.

Meanwhile, the oath was administered by district returning officer Allah Buksh Ranjha.

The district nazim later vowed to resolve basic problems and grievances faced by the people.
