HARIPUR: A minor boy died when a speeding van ran over him near Serai Saleh railway station on Rehana Road, police said here on Sunday.

The police quoted eyewitnesses as saying that a woman, resident of Pind Jamal Khan village, was getting off a van near the railway station when her two and a half years old grandson Abu Bakar ran away and got in the middle of the road where another van ran over him.

The boy died on the spot, said the police.

SECURITY PLAN: At least 763 police officials would remain deployed with the polio staff across Haripur district during the five-day anti-polio campaign, said district police officer Kashif Zulfiqar while talking to mediapersons here on Sunday.

He said that the police force would extend its full support to the health staff during the campaign starting from Monday (today).

The DPO said that the district had been divided into four circles and 11 sub circles to ensure security of the health staff and each circle would be supervised by the respective SHO.

He warned the police officers of disciplinary action in case of any negligence of duty during the campaign. According to sources at the DHO office, 179,342 children would be administered polio vaccine in 45 union councils and three Afghan refugee camps.
