KARACHI: Bahria Club beat One Unit Club 55-46 to clinch the Malik Shahid Hamid Shaheed basketball title here at the Arambagh-Abdul Nasir courts on Wednesday evening.

Bahria Club, comprising young players, displayed superior game and never allowed One Unit Club to take control of the game. Aun Akram (17 pts) was the star of the day and scored four three-pointers to lead the way for the winners. He was well assisted by Zunair Ali (13 pts) and Mohsin Gujjar (12 pts).

For the losing side, the main scorers were Tashquain Zaidi (15 pts), Talal Ahmed (13 pts) and Mohammad Faizan (12 pts).

Aun Akram was declared the best player of the tournament while special awards were given to promising, young players Daniyal Marwat and Hasan Ali Jr.

The chief guest in the final was Shahnaz Shahid, the former head of CM Sindh inspection committee, who distributed the prizes among the winners and runner-up teams. She lauded the fine standard of the game and arrangements throughout the event and announced to hold the tournament regularly every year. She also emphasised on the youth to maintain a balance in academics and sports activities.

Also present on the occasion were DIGP Omar Shahid, KBBA chief Ghulam Mohammad, PTF’s Khalid Shamsi, Advocate Ghulam Abbas Jamal, Benazir Baloch and others.
