ABBOTTABAD: The centenary celebrations of the District Bar Association, Abbottabad, ended with the closing ceremony at newly-constructed DBA building here the other day.

Rich tributes were paid to DBA founder president Mir Wali Ullah and his companions who had laid the foundation of the district bar association in 1920 and also remained its president till 1949.

A colorful magazine was also published to mark the centenary celebrations of one of the oldest bar associations of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Informative material has been included in the magazine covering the 100 years of DBA, Abbottabad, with names of prominent lawyers who are still remembered for their contributions and professionalism.

The annual dinner was attended by lawyers from all over Hazara division besides special guests, including KP secretary law Masood Ahmed, DG excise Saqib Aslam, additional secretary local government Waseem Ahmed Khan and a number of district and divisional officers.

DBA outgoing president Jahangir Elahi lauded the role of senior lawyers of Abbottabad who got national fame through their professional work as some of them won distinction in the judiciary as judges and lawyers.

Fraz Ahmed advocate, of DBA secretary general, briefed the participants about the centenary activities. He said that besides sports gala, extracurricular activities like poetry session and seminars were also held during the year.

He said that special MOUs had been signed with different private hospitals for providing healthcare facilities to the lawyers and their families.

Masood Ahmed presented a cheque for Rs2 million for the district bar while Waseem Ahmed said on the occasion that extension of lease of district Bar Club would be approved soon and additional funds would be provided for its beautification.

Additional deputy Commissioner Abid Ali said that cabins and seating spots for stamp sellers and petition writers would be constructed for which PC-I had been sent for approval.
