MANSEHRA: District police officer Asif Bahadur has appointed women moharrars to four police stations here to facilitate women in lodging FIRs.

“We have initially appointed women moharrars to City, Oghi, Shinkiari and Balakot police stations to the relief of women, who stay away for being unable to share their complaints with policemen,” he told reporters in his office here on Friday.

Mr Bahadur, who assumed the DOP’s office lately, said he was committed to restoring the people’s confidence in police and controlling crime with their help.

He said other police stations in the district would also get women moharrars in the days ahead.

DPO says initiative to facilitate women in lodging FIRs

City Police Station moharrar Syeda Misbah Abid said social pressures stopped women from visiting police stations for FIR registration but that would change after the women moharrars’ appointment.

Oghi police station moharrar Irum Afsar said her appointment would encourage more and more women to approach police with complaints for action.

Mohammad Chanzeb and his friend Shahjehan were attacked in their sleep in a mountainous hut.

Mohammad Chanzeb died on the way to a local hospital, while Shahjehan was referred to the Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad due to critical injuries.

The police registered an FIR and began investigation to trace killers.

SEALED: The administration sealed the offices of an illegal housing scheme here on Friday.

Led by assistant commissioner Jawad Sardar Marwat, a team of the district administration and the tehsil municipal administration’s building department raided the Mansehra Garden Housing Society, sealed its offices and fined its owners.

SHELTER HOME: Transgender persons on Thursday demanded the establishment of a shelter home for themselves and provision of an inclusive educational environment to children with gender identity confusion.

The demand was made during an open forum organised by the district administration in Shinkiari area with assistant commissioner of Baffa-Pakhal Rabia Abbasi and representatives of different departments in attendance.

Meanwhile, all office-bearers of the district bar association except the president were elected unopposed on Thursday.

A close contest is expected between Iftikhar Alam and Bilal Khan for the president’s office next week.

Election commissioner Ayaz Khan advocate announced that Iftikhar Afzal Khan was elected the vice-president, Azhar Zahoor Tanoli general secretary, Rizwan Nazir Tanoli secretary and Aziur Rehman joint secretary.

Five members of the association’s executive body were also elected unopposed.
