QUETTA: A meeting on the Pak-Afghan Border Fence Project on Monday discussed different options for its implementation and reviewed the pace of work.

The meeting, held in the border town of Chaman with Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove in the chair, was informed that 187km fencing has helped curb terrorism and reduce such incidents in the province.

Additional Chief Secretary Hafiz Basit, Brigadier Wajid of Southern Command, Commandant Chaman Scouts Col Rashid, Qila Abdullah’s Deputy Commissioner Tariq Javed Mengal and other officials attended the meeting.

Col Rashid and Mr Mengal briefed the meeting about the fencing work and presented a report on the status of implementation of the project.

The meeting was assured of timely completion of the public welfare project and prompt resolution of the problems being faced by the people on both sides of the border.

Officials concerned also informed the meeting about the progress the Afghan government was making for resolving land issues on both sides of the border.

While speaking at the meeting, Home Minister Ziaullah Langove directed the authorities to complete the project on priority and consider all options for achieving this goal in time as it concerns the country’s security. He said the project was essential to further improve the law and order situation in the province.

The minister said the border fencing was in the interest of both countries. He said it would help curb illegal movement and negative activities on the border. It was one of the government’s priorities, he added.
