The government of Gilgit-Baltistan has declared it Pakistan's first "corona-free" region, with no Covid-19 patients reported there at the moment.

GB's focal person for coronavirus Dr Shah Zaman confirmed there were no active cases in the region's 10 districts and all existing patients had recovered.

"Despite limited resources, coronavirus was controlled," Dr Zaman said, adding that the trend could be maintained through precautions in addition to vaccine deployment.

GB's first Covid-19 patient was a woman who was confirmed to have the virus in March 2020.
