Pakistan face Nepal today

CHRISTCHURCH, Jan 21: Pakistan will take on much improved Nepal in their second league outing at Lincoln Green Tuesday in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Pakistan are leading Group ‘B’ with five points after they collected a bonus point for achieving the target in a restricted number of over against Papua New Guinea.

Nepal gained a lot of confidance Monday after they offered a great challenge to England before going down in an excting contest.—APP

Agencies add: A five-wicket haul by Nottinghamshire off-spinner Paul McMahon saved England from potential embarrassment against Nepal in the first round of the ICC Under-19s World Cup here Monday.

England won by 37 runs but were made to work hard for their victory by a spirited Nepal side that restricted their opponents to just 204 for six from 50 overs. The total was to prove adequate enough though as Nepal were dismissed for 167.

Man-of-the-Match McMahon, who recovered from a groin injury to play, finished with 5-25.

Group A: India bt Canada by 242 runs. India 356-6 in 50 overs (Maninder Bisla 128, Parthiv Patel 74, Paul Vathaty 50; Nathan Richards 3-70); Canada 114 in 40.2 overs (Siddharth Trivedi 3-28, Abhiskek Sharma 3-13).

Group B: New Zealand bt Zimbabwe by 6 wkts. Zimbabwe 71 in 36.2 overs (Michael Bates 4-26); New Zealand 72-4 in 10.3 overs.

Group C: England bt Nepal by 37 runs. England 204-6 in 50 overs (Gordon Muchall 57); Nepal 167 in 49.2 overs (Paul McMahon 5-25).

Group D: West Indies bt Scotland by 301 runs. West Indies 402-3 in 50 overs (Donovan Pagon 176, Llendl Simmons 121, Alcindo Holder 56 not out); Scotland 102 in 38.3 overs (Ryan Nurse 3-18).
