MUZAFFARGARH: Chowk Karam Dad Qureshi police registered a case against an excise inspector and two others for snatching cash from a truck driver and 2,700 litre diesel from his vehicle.

The suspects included Excise Inspector Sheikh Sikandar and Makhdoom Magga, a son of Muzaffargarh Excise and Taxation Officer Makhdoom Qasim. The third suspect could not be identified.

Sources said that on Feb 18, an excise team, including Excise Inspector Sheikh Sikandar and others, stopped a Lahore-bound truck coming from Balochistan.

It was driven by Hayatullah who was accompanied by his brother.

The team told the driver it had been tipped off that there was hashish in the truck.

They asked the driver to park the truck at a petrol pump and allegedly thrashed the driver and his brother.

On the petrol pump, the team snatched Rs56,000 and prize bonds worth 50,000 and took out 2,700 diesel from the truck. The team took driving license of the driver and the computerised national identity card.

However, when the excise team checked the truck after unloading the load, it found only bags of Chhaliya (betel nut used in Pan). It locked the truck in the police station.

The truck driver and his brother reached the office of the district police officer and complained about the incident.

Police registered a case against Excise Inspector Sheikh Sikandar and Makhdoom Magga, the son of ETO Makhdoom Qasim.

When Dawn tried to contact Sheikh Sikandar, his cell phone was found switched off. ETO Makhdoom Qasim denied the allegations against his son.
