Experts visit Sujan Singh Haveli to finalise PC-I for restoration

RAWALPINDI: A team of experts from the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) visited Sujan Singh Haveli to finalise PC-I of its preservation and restoration.

Rawalpindi Metropolitan Corporation officials briefed the team.

The experts also inspected all parts of the Haveli, its condition and the materials used in the building.

The officials said first the structure of the Haveli would be secured to stop its deterioration.

They said deodar cedar wood had been used in the mansion and half of its doors were still intact which will be secured. Only deodar cedar wood will be used on the preparation of new doors.

Iron has also been used in the roof of the Haveli while tiles of different sizes have been installed in the walls and floor and the same ancient material will be used for its restoration.

The plan for preservation and rehabilitation of the Haveli is estimated at Rs104 million.

A senior official said the team of experts will finalise a report within a week and submit it to Commissioner Rawalpindi Mohammad Mehmood.

He said work on the restoration of temples in the area would also be started soon. Establishment of a food street, restoration of the temples and the Haveli will be started at the same time, he added.
