Two brothers buried in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA, Oct 12: Bodies of the two brothers and students of Muzaffarabad Engineering University, who died in earthquake, were brought to Model Town and laid to rest in a local graveyard in the presence of scores of mourners here on Wednesday.

Reports said that deceased Saeed and Wahid, the sons of Wapda account officer Saleem Akhtar, died when the roof of their classroom collapsed on them. Almost all students of the university died in the earthquake. Later, government rescue teams along with the area people recovered the bodies of students.

While a girl student, Nabila of Muzaffarabad Secondary Girls School, who was rescued, reached Peoples Colony here along with her relatives. She said that her mother, sister and brothers lost their lives in the devastating earthquake.

ARRESTED: Sabzi Mandi police claimed to have arrested five dacoits in a raid and recovered looted goods and illicit arms from their possession on Wednesday.

Reports said that three brothers Aslam, Ajmal, Afzal along with two accomplices Fahad and Irshad were present in their hideout when police raided there and arrested them.

DPO Dr Arif Mushtaq announced cash prizes for the raiding team members.

DEATH SENTENCE: The local Anti-Terrorism Court No 2 handed down death sentence to two and life imprisonment to four convicts and fined Rs400,000, collectively, in a triple murder case on Wednesday.

While the judge acquitted their co-accused — Akhtar alias Kalu by giving him the benefit of the doubt.

According to the prosecution, convicts Shahid Afzal, Muhammad Rafi, Khawar Ali, Muhammad Boota, Qamer Zaman and Asad alias Mani had killed Muhammad Akbar, Muhammad Qasim and Mubasher Ahmad over an old enmity in Shadiwal village in Kunjah on June 20, 2004.

STABBED TO DEATH: A woman, the mother of four children, was stabbed to death by her relative on Naushera Road here on Wednesday.

Deceased Nusrat Bibi was present in her house when accused Hanif came there and tried to rape her. For offering resistance, the accused attacked her with a knife, killing her on the spot.

Police have registered a case against the absconding accused and are investigating.
