LAHORE: Zafar Hayat of Lahore Gymkhana continued his ascendancy on the second day of the third Chairman Wapda Amateur Golf Championship here at Lahore Gymkhana on Saturday.
With an 18 holes score of gross 77 on Saturday plus a score of gross 33 in the fog impaired nine holes on Friday when the 18 holes were reduced to nine because of a late start, Zafar has compiled an aggregate of 110.
Zafar’s nearest challenger still remains Pakistan’s top-ranked amateur, Umer Khoker of Rawalpindi, along with Mohammad Nasir Irshad and teenager Damil Ataullah of the Garrison Golf Club. All of them are bracketed at 111.
Another prominent one in the run for ultimate triumph is defending champion Qasim Ali Khan (gross 112).
Other seasoned contenders with reasonable scores are Hussain Hamid (Royal Palm), Mohammad Shoaib, Nauman Asghar, Salman Jehangir and Mohammad Arsalan, all from Lahore Gymkhana.
In the amateur net category, Lahore Gymkhana’s Mohammad Nasir had a net 67 on Saturday adding to his nine hole 34 on Friday which gave him an aggregate net score of 101.
Following him at net 106 is Farhan Khan and Mohammad Abid and Ghulam Haider at net 107.
