LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has appreciated the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) for taking part in the Senate polls advising the opposition alliance that by remaining part of the system it may gain further benefits.

Speaking to parliamentary reporters here on Wednesday, he stressed that by remaining a part of the system, the PDM would further benefit from it as local polls would follow Senate elections.

“The opposition should contest elections and also do politicking by staying within the system as boycott is no solution to any problem.”

He recalled that the PPP had suffered a lot by boycotting the 1985 general election and since then its leadership never thought of repeating the mistake whatever the results of the polls.

In an apparent reference to the PML-N leadership, he said those who remained in power thrice were suffering only because they didn’t learn to forgo their ego on certain issues.

“One suffers a lot when one doesn’t get rid of the ego issues. One should be as humble in politics as possible to maintain one’s success and honour.”
