RAWALPINDI: Two persons succumbed to Covid-19 and another 95 tested positive in the capital and Rawalpindi district on Friday.

Mateen Haider, 63, a resident of Bahria Town Phase-8, was brought to Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU) on Feb 1 where he died on Friday.

Anwarul Haq, 52, from Chaklala Scheme-III, was shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) on Feb 3 where he breathed his last late Thursday night.

Out of the 16 new patients, 13 arrived in the city’s hospitals from Rawalpindi city and cantonment areas, two from Gujar Khan and one from Kahuta.

The district has recorded 267 active patients with 53 being treated in hospitals and 204 patients home isolated. As many as 469 patients are waiting for their Covid-19 serology results.

A total of 53 patients from the district are under treatment in various hospitals out of whom eight were in Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 18 in Fauji Foundation Hospital, 11 in Holy Family Hospital, one in Red Crescent Hospital, two in Hearts International Hospital, one in Begum Akhtar Sultana Memorial Trust Hospital and 12 in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology.

Commissioner retired Capt Mohammad Mehmood told Dawn six patients were in critical condition and needed ventilator, 33 were on oxygen and 14 were in stable condition.

He said 16,960 people have tested positive for Covid-19 since March 2020 out of whom 13,774 were in Rawalpindi, 1,226 in Attock, 1,335 in Jhelum and 620 in Chakwal.

He said 15,818 patients had been discharged from hospitals after recovering in the four districts and 731 had lost their lives to the virus in Rawalpindi Division.On the other hand, Islamabad reported 79 new cases while 87 patients recovered.

Officials of the capital administration said during the last 24 hours, 5,808 tests were conducted out of which results of 49 males and 30 females came back positive. The positivity rate in the capital was recorded at 1.3pc, they added.

As many as 17 cases were reported in the age group of 30-39, followed by 14 in 0-9, 12 in 50-59, nine in 20-29, eight in 60-69, four each in 10-19 and 70-79, and two in 80 and above, the officials said.

According to the breakdown, nine cases were reported from Lohi Bher, followed by eight from F-11, seven from G-8, six from I-10, five each from I-8 and Tarlai, four each from Bhara Kahu and G-9, three each from Rawat, G-10, E-11 and B-17, two each from F-6, F-7, Model Town and Sihala, one each from G-6, Khanna, G-11, G-7, G-5, D-12, Shah Allah Ditta, E-8 and Tanol.
