QUETTA: Balochistan Minister for Education Yar Mohammad Rind has said that there is acute shortage of teachers in the province.

He was speaking at a function on Monday during which he distributed appoin­t­ment letters among 388 male and female teachers.

Chief mi­­nister’s adviser Malik Naeem Khan Bazai, Higher Edu­­cation Secretary Mohammad Hash­im Khan Ghilzai, Sec­ondary Education Sec­retary Sher Khan Bazai and other officials of the education depart­ment also attended the function.

“We are making all-out efforts to resolve the issue of shortage of teachers in the province,” Mr Rind said, adding that residential schools were being established in all districts of Balochistan.

The minister asked the media to point out corruption in the education department and the government would take action against the corrupt officials.

“Establishing the eructation department on modern lines is one of our top priorities,” he said.

The minister said that steps were under way to eliminate ghost teachers and employees from the education department.

“Many schools are closed due to the retirement of a lone teacher and the people consider them as ghost schools,” he said.

Mr Rind said that some teachers would be sent to the United States for training and he had requested the chief minister to allocate more funds for the education sector.

“The condition of our province is such that people cannot send their children to school. I have stated that there is a severe shortage of teachers and I have requested the chief minister to re­­solve the issue,” he added.
