KARACHI, Oct 9: The Muslim Commercial Bank has contributed Rs200 million to the President’s Fund for Earthquake Victims-2005. An official told Dawn on Sunday that branches of the bank would accept donations from people throughout the country from Monday.
He added that remittances from abroad would be delivered to earthquake victims without any charge. He said remittances sent in by those who might not bank with the MCB would also be handled without any charge.
COCA-COLA: Chairman and CEO of the Coca-Cola has announced that the company and the Coca-cola Foundation has pledged $2 million (Rs120 million) for the earthquake relief efforts under way in Pakistan.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, he said that that 50 per cent of the amount would be deposited in the President’s Relief Fund for Earthquake Victims-2005 and the remaining would go to the International Red Cross and the Red Crescent Societies engaged in relief work in affected areas.
NIC CONTRIBUTION: The National Insurance Company (NIC) has announced a contribution of Rs50 million towards the President’s relief fund.
The NIC Chairman said that NIC employees had also contributed their one-day basic salary to the relief fund.
