RAWALPINDI: Two people lost their lives to Covid-19 on Wednesday while 27 people were diagnosed with the virus in district Rawalpindi. Around 24 people recovered from the disease and were discharged from hospitals.

Habibur Rehman, 75, resident of Gulnar Colony was brought to Fauji Foundation Hospital on Jan 23. He died on Wednesday morning. Mohammad Babar, 36, resident of Rawalpindi was brought to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital on Jan 26 where he passed away.

Out of the 27 new patients, 17 are from Rawalpindi’s city and cantonment areas. Five patients are from cantonment, nine are from Potohar Town and three from Rawal Town. Five patients arrived from other tehsils of Rawalpindi including one each from Gujar Khan, Kalar Syedan and Kahuta and two patients arrived from Taxila. Three of the new patients are from Islamabad and one each from Gujrat and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As many as 322 active patients are in the district now, 61 of whom are in hospitals. Around 33 patients arrived from other districts and 261 patients are home isolated whereas 472 patients are awaiting the results of Covid-19 serology.

Nine patients are admitted in Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), 11 in Fauji Foundation Hospital (FFH), eight in Holy Family Hospital (HFH), four in Red Crescent Hospital (RCH), three in Hearts International Hospital and 25 in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU).

Commissioner retired Capt Mohammad Mehmood told Dawn that eight patients are critically ill and on ventilator in Rawalpindi, 30 are on oxygen support and 23 are stable.

He said 16,685 people were tested positive since March 2020 including 13,630 in Rawalpindi, 12,468 of whom belong to the district and 1,162 were from outside, 1,188 in Attock - 1,157 from the district and 31 from outside the district - 1,262 in Jhelum and 605 in Chakwal.
