KARACHI: A suspected drug peddler, whom police did not name, allegedly killed a policeman in an attempt to flee during a police raid early on Monday morning.

Police claimed to have arrested him later from Clifton along with an accomplice.

On a tip-off, police conducted a raid near a petrol pump in Tauheed Commercial area. During the action, the wanted suspect tried to escape in a vehicle and hit police constable Mir Mohammad Memon with the vehicle in the attempt.

South SSP Zubair Nazeer said the police had conducted the raid to arrest the ‘notorious’ peddler. While fleeing, the suspect ran over the cop and injured him. The policeman died on the way to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

In a separate incident, a 45-year-old man was shot dead by unknown suspects inside his home near Gulshan-i-Maymar over some personal enmity, according to the police.

Identified as Zahoor, his body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
