THIS refers to the article ‘Faith and courage’ (Dec 3). Referring to the rapprochement between Israel and Saudi Arabia, it raises the question “Are we in Pakistan mature enough to be enlarged by our difference with others...?”
Now, would it not have been more appropriate for it to ask the Israelis to enlarge themselves by ignoring their differences with Palestinians at least by treating them as human beings entitled to live with dignity on the very land which had belonged to them for generations, and from which they were evicted forcibly without any compensation?
In any case, just how much land Israelis require for less than seven million Jews living in Israel, and about 15 million worldwide, with low birth rate and no dramatic increase expected in the foreseeable future?
What is worse is that neither their enablers, supporters and financiers, the enlightened and supposedly civilised West, nor the 193 Jewish Nobel laureates can make Israeli leaders realise that the way they are going, they will lose exclusive Jewish nature of their state and are sure to end up like South Africa or Zimbabwe.
How can one talk of high ideals etc. while talking about a land where Palestinians are treated almost like animals?
