LOWER DIR: The tehsil municipal administration launched an anti-encroachment crackdown in Manda Bazaar here on Friday.
Tehsil municipal officer Amjad Raza and tehsildar Hazrat Yousuf led the operation. The Dir Levies personnel accompanied the TMA officials as the latter removed several illegal roadside encroachments.
The TMO directed shopkeepers to remove encroachments by themselves alongside the roads in four days for smooth traffic movement.
He warned that if that didn’t happen, encroachers would be dealt with strictly.
TWO-FINGER TEST: The Awaz Foundation, a rights’ body working in Lower Dir district, on Friday lauded the Lahore High Court’s decision to strike down the two-finger test for examination of sexual assault survivors.
Partner of the organisation Akbar Khan told reporters here that the two-finger test in assault cases was immoral, illegal and unconstitutional and it was often used against assault victims.
He said the historical verdict would ensure the dispensation of justice to rape victims.Mr Akbar demanded of the government to legislate for the protection of women and children.
PDM RALLY: Pakistan Peoples Party provincial president Humayun Khan has said the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s rally in Batkhela on Jan 11 will turn out to be a referendum against the PTI government.
Addressing a workers’ convention at the Chakdara fishing hut here on Friday, he said all arrangements had been finalised for the PDM’s rally, whose participants would get a warm welcome. The other speakers, including Najmuddin, Malik Azmat Khan, Bakht Baidar and Ashfaqur Rehman, flayed the government over the record inflation and unemployment in the country and said the people were struggling to make both ends meet.
